A Plus criticizes Kumasi Chiefs for shutting down Oyerepa FM

A Plus, a Ghanaian performer and social critic, has joined those who have criticized the Kumasi Traditional Council for its decision to outlaw Oyerepa FM.

The Kumasi Traditional Council’s decision to shut down a radio station, according to A Plus, was improper.

The contentious performer said, in a response that BeAt News saw today, August 26, on his Facebook page, “If the Ga traditional council or the Volta regional house of chiefs close down a media house because they have been accused of a crime on their platform, this country will be ungovernable. This is not right.”

His statement comes in response to the Kumasi Traditional Council’s directive to the Oyerepa FM and TV management to temporarily suspend operations beginning today, Friday, August 26, 2022.

In addition, the traditional council is requesting an unqualified apology from the station’s management for remarks made on its platform by Akwasi Addai Odike, the party’s founder and leader.

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has also voiced his opinion on the subject. He has criticized the Kumasi chiefs’ move, claiming that the council cannot shut down a radio station in accordance with the constitution.
