AngloGold Ashanti would help with the investigation into the arrest of alleged unlicensed miners
AngloGold Ashanti Ghana declares that it would fully assist with any inquiries concerning the capture of a group of unauthorized workers who were transporting gold-bearing materials from the Obuasi Gold Mine’s underground workings.
The suspects were found in the mining concession’s northern region, which is where the mine is now operating.
No suspects were hurt during the arrest procedure.
The Ministry for Lands and Natural Resources and the Ghana Police Service have launched an inquiry into the event.
Illegal mining is dangerous because it compromises the structural integrity of existing infrastructure and the profitability of mining activities, especially in subterranean locations.
At doing so, it puts the lives of business staff, independent contractors, law enforcement officers, and the criminals themselves in jeopardy.
AngloGold Ashanti is a signatory to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and continues to work closely with all of its many stakeholders to combat illicit mining on its concession in a safe and responsible manner.
Since 2016, Obuasi Gold Mine has given the government access to 70% of its original mining license for development.
After a drawn-out legal procedure, the property was given up along with information gathered from years of geological drilling.
