Galamsey Fight: In the Tano-Nimiri Forest Reserve, “Machomen” and others “lock up” Media Personnel and Forestry Commission Personnel

On Wednesday, some media personnel and representatives of the Forestry Commission received the shock of their lives when they were imprisoned in the Tano-Nimiri Forest Reserve following a heist.

The Western North Region’s Aowin Municipality is home to the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

Samson K. Nyamekye of Hello FM, one of the journalists inside the forest reserve, described how Machomen’s supporters forbade them from leaving the area until their confiscated equipment was returned.

The organization collaborating with Akonta Mining claims that they have the authorization to mine in the forest.

Samson Nyamekye recalled, “The machomen grabbed the seized things after more than two hours of back and forth; they insisted they had the document to mine. ”

Who or why will a person or officer grant a mining firm a permit to operate in a forest reserve is the key question.

The Forestry Commission is unaware of the document’s author at this time. Samson Nyamekye was informed that it was improper for anyone to consent to mining, particularly in a forest reserve.
