If you don't deal with the existing issues, another Rawlings will come along and make more trouble - Nunoo-Mensah to the gov't

If you don’t deal with the existing issues, another Rawlings will come along and make more trouble, Nunoo-Mensah told the gov’t.

Brigadier-General (Ret.) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former head of the Ghanaian armed forces’ defense staff, has warned the Akufo-Addo administration against ignoring the demands of the country’s irate young.

According to him, the government’s persistent disregard for the nation’s fundamental socioeconomic requirements would probably lead to the development of a citizen who will challenge it, just as the late Rawlings did to Hilla Limann’s administration on December 31, 1981.

The security expert stated that people are hungry and would do everything to live while discussing the topic of insecurity within the West African sub-region in an interview with the Accra-based JoyNews that was being seen by Modernghana News.

“The other day there was a protest” (Arise Ghana). They don’t bother you; you don’t care. A second Rawlings will stand up and make a worse mess than the first one did. If people are starving… People are hungry, and I get calls. This is not a minor matter,” he said, using the Arise Ghana protest as an example.

According to the former Chief of Defence Staff, the issue can only be resolved when the government forbids the opulent way of life in the face of financial hardship.

They rave about the local cuisine, kenkey, while we steal their money to purchase pricey [cars]. Accra will have more Land Cruisers than Tokyo, by a wide margin. Are we mad, or are we just flawed? The young will respond to your behavior if you continue to act that way. It is a result of rage. We are producing the rage, which shouldn’t be happening, he snarls.
