In order to justify their severe treatment of demonstrators, police employed personnel wearing Arise Ghana shirts to throw stones-Bernard Mornah
Bernard Mornah, a prominent member of the Arise Ghana movement, claims that on Tuesday, the Ghana Police Service placed officers among protestors and gave them instructions to throw stones as a pretext for brutally suppressing the crowd.
When police used tear gas to remove some protestors who threw stones at police and service cars, a rally that was supposed to go on peacefully today descended into mayhem.
Bernard Mornah, a senior leader of Arise Ghana, has accused the Police of plotting the violence that was seen today as the first day of the two-day rally comes to a close.
The former PNC chairman said in an interview with Citi News this evening that certain policemen were sent to throw stones at protestors while wearing Arise Ghana T-shirts in order to give the police justification to beat them up.
“I have led protests that started at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and ended at the Jubilee House, as well as countless others that continued from the Jubilee House all the way to Parliament. Nothing strange occurred. I took part in the “dumsor” vigil that was held in this nation after 8 o’clock. The cops behaved in a professional manner. You fired at protestors who remained still today.
“It was red-clad police officers who began hurling stones against their own officers. It is something I am expressing, not something I am alleging. This is what took place. There were several cops wearing scarlet red clothing. They wore t-shirts from Arise Ghana. Before they got there, this assault was planned, according to Bernard Mornah.
“So when the Police began shooting at us, they started throwing stones at their own since we had previously told our people that no one should hurl any stones,” the Arise Ghana senior member stated.
“Those who were hurling stones, you’ll see them wearing t-shirts from Arise Ghana; I assure you, these are Police officers. They made that decision so they could abuse us. This is to let you know how vicious President Akufo-Addo is and how he has infected the Ghana Police Service with his aggression.
12 of the Ghana Police Service’s officers who were on duty today reportedly suffered a variety of wounds and had to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
In addition, several of the police trucks that carried personnel to guard the demonstrators had suffered damage.
Checks have shown that several protestors were hurt and were seeking medical attention, in addition to others who were detained by the police for throwing stones and raising a commotion.
