The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSG) has been guaranteed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that the 203 Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) house officers’ eight-month wage arrears will be paid shortly.

“I have instructed the Minister of Finance, and Minister of Health to work together to urgently pay these young men and women. I assure you that it is being addressed,” he said.

For the safe and judicious use of medications in the upcoming months, the government would see to it that a suitable number of pharmacists were hired by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health.

At the beginning of the PSG’s 2022 Annual General Meeting in Tamale, President Akufo-Addo made this statement in an address that was read on his behalf by Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister.

Pharmacy professionals from all over the nation gathered for the AGM to discuss issues affecting society and pharmaceutical practices.

The topic of the week-long program is: “Optimising the Pharmaceutical Workforce in a Rapidly Evolving World”.

The President declared that Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and its products would be actively promoted within the West African Sub-region, and that the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry would also advocate for the removal of restrictions on intra-regional trade in pharmaceutical goods.

In order to address the challenges of the changing times, he urged the PSG and the Ghana College of Pharmacists to expand opportunities for advanced learning and the training of expert pharmacists. He highlighted the contribution of pharmacists to economic development.

According to him, the necessity for advanced learning and training has arisen as the profession has developed to cover more complex tasks and responsibilities.
