Labianca fight: As the OSP report is being examined, GRA distances itself from Col. Damoah’s vitriol
The Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) report accusing the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) Customs Division and Labianca Company Limited of wrongdoing that cost the government money has received an official response from the GRA.
The GRA claims in a lengthy announcement that the remarks made by Col. Kwadwo Damoah (rtd), Commissioner of the Customs Division, are his personal opinions.
Col. Damoah criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng last week for the information in his report on the Labianca case, in which over GHS1 million in unpaid import duties were seized.
Kiss Agyebeng is referred to by the Commissioner of the Customs Division as a “little lad” who tries to bring him down.
“Anyone who has studied that report thoroughly would be aware of the foundation for it, but fortunately for me, God is always on my side. Before that story surfaced, that individual had told some of the people who had come (to inform me of this) that he intended to publish something that would damage my reputation. I even sent others to warn him that I am older than him and that he is a young child.
It won’t be simple for him to ruin me because I’ve lived a meaningful life. People have attempted it; I have survived, and I shall survive this one as well “said Colonel Damoah
The GRA has distanced itself in response to the statements, which have been characterized as unnecessary and emotive.
In this regard, the Authority issues the following statement: “The Authority wishes to state that the comments made by the Commissioner of the Customs Division, Col Kwadwo Damoah Rtd. at the Customs Management Retreat on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 on the outcomes of the investigation were made in his personal capacity and do not convey the opinion of the Board and Management of GRA.”
The GRA claims that it is closely examining the report’s findings and will act swiftly to ensure that all practices and procedures that have been recognized as causing or having the potential to cause revenue loss are stopped in accordance with its mission.
