On July 25, Ghana and Thelo DB Consortium will sign a $3.2 billion deal for the Western Railway Line.
On July 25, Ghana and the Thelo DB consortium are scheduled to sign a $3.2 billion framework agreement for the Western Railway Line Project.
The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) Secretariat is hosting the Ministerial Program in Accra, where the signing ceremony will take place.
“The Western Railway Line Project will transform Ghana’s existing railway infrastructure base into a modern, robust, and integrated railway system, with the associated infrastructure to position Ghana’s rail network as a leading transport system in Africa,” said Mr. Ronnie Ntuli, Chairman, Thelo DB, in a statement released in Accra.
The project consists of three phases: planning (all project preparation-related activities, such as feasibility studies, demand analyses, preliminary and detailed designs, and procurement consulting); implementation (systems engineering design, construction supervision, design review, audit systems engineering, testing and commissioning of rolling stock and infrastructure); and operations and maintenance management (early train operator, consulting services in terms of infrastructure operations, rolling stock operations, infrastructure and rolling stock maintenance).
President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, Mr. John Peter Amewu, Minister for Railway Development, Mr. Ebrahim Patel, Minister of Trade and Industry, South Africa, Mr. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General, AfCFTA Secretariat, and Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, are among the dignitaries scheduled to speak at the signing ceremony.
Others include Mr. Ronnie Ntuli, Chairman of Thelo DB, and Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank.
Thelo DB is a South African railroad corporation that was founded by Thelo Ventures, an African industrial business, and Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting, a German engineering and consulting firm (DB).
Transtech Consult, a partner from Ghana, is also a member of the Thelo DB consortium.
