Otokunor makes fun of Bawumia: I paid GH5 for kenkey using my Ghana Card, yet the wrapped leaves alone are GH3.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received criticism from Peter Boamah Otokunor, the deputy general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NPP), over a recent comment he made on the Ghana Card.
At the New Patriotic Party’s Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium, Otokunor claimed in his closing remarks that the country’s difficult economic circumstances led him to purchase a kenkey ball for GHS5.
“I made the decision to purchase a ball of kenkey when we arrived [to the Delegates Conference]. This kenkey ball costs 5 cedis. More pricey than the kenkey itself, the leaves alone will cost 3 cedis. Ladies and gentlemen, I used my Ghana Card to purchase the kenkey, he said.
Dr. Bawumia recently said that he would prefer the Ghana Card above infrastructure features like interchanges during the opening of two new advanced information technology programs at Accra Business School in Baatson, Accra.
“I would take the Ghana card because it has greater effect if you handed me 1,000 interchanges,” he said.
He said that the Ghana card has made things easier since “students may now acquire loans without guarantors using the Ghana card.”
Since the Vice-remarks, President’s a number of comments and memes on social media have suggested that the Ghana Card can now address the issues facing the typical Ghanaian.
For the purpose of choosing new executives to manage the party for the next four years, the New Patriotic Party is hosting its Delegates’ Conference.
