Scandal over almost 9 months of unpaid wages affects Dr. Duffour’s EIB Network-

The once admirable reputation of the media conglomerate that was established decades ago as one of the entities that not only exuded flamboyance but also promised appropriate working conditions and remuneration for staff has been tarnished by a once-thriving media organization that now appears to be plagued by difficulties.

Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network, a media conglomerate founded by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, who previously held the position of Finance Minister from 2009 to 2013 and is now vying to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), appears to be struggling financially as reports suggest the business has been unable to pay employees’ salaries in Accra for more than nine months despite the country’s economic hardship.

According to reports, the employees were irked by the development and the apparent casual attitude, and some of them are said to have gone on strike to express their utmost displeasure with the circumstance.

On July 1, 2022, YFM radio presenter Ebenezer Donkoh posted on social media about the group’s planned strike action for the first time.

“EIB Accra staff members are likely to go on strike starting on Monday over unpaid salaries. Some employees owe more than nine months’ worth of wages, Mr. Donkoh tweeted.

On Tuesday, the radio host revealed that the irate employees had received punishment for demanding what was rightfully theirs.

In his statement, he said that “the management of Starr FM and GhOne TV has directed all staff who participated in the demonstration to seek their over 9 months’ unpaid salaries to stay off air until further notice.”

Unfortunately, the media is not ‘allowed’ to talk about the many challenges the media face, according to a different post from the broadcaster known online as NYDJ. People in my industry receive some of the lowest pay and salaries, but who am I to complain? “Lions don’t eat lions,” they claim. I’m over with this.
