Waiting for teachers to strike before acting is ineptitude and poor leadership, according to the COLA strike – Professor Gyampo.

The Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) branch at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has voiced his displeasure with the government’s disregard for teachers.

He feels that instead of waiting for them to go on strike, the government should have taken proactive measures to resolve their concerns.

The outspoken professor stated, in a Facebook post viewed by Modernghana News on Saturday, July 9, that lecturers usually give many warnings before going on strike.

He said that the government ought to have heeded the warnings as a wake-up call.

“Teachers don’t go on strike without issuing several warnings and sending numerous letters that go unanswered. Acting after a strike has already happened, rather than taking action to avoid it, is a cheap and ineffective leadership tactic, according to his article.

Due to the government’s inability to pay pre-tertiary teachers’ Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) since July 4, they are now on strike.
